Claudia Richardson, MD, MPH, FACOG

With over 30 years of work experience as a physician and a clinical leader, I am passionate about improving the health and well-being of diverse and underserved communities. As the Medical Director at City of Detroit, I oversee the development and implementation of innovative and evidence-based public health programs and policies, such as COVID-19 vaccination, mental health, substance abuse, and environmental health. I also collaborate with various stakeholders, such as local and state officials, health care providers, community organizations, and media outlets, to advocate for health equity and social justice. Prior to joining City of Detroit, I served as the Chief Medical Officer and a physician at Roanoke Chowan Community Health Center, where I provided quality and compassionate care to rural and low-income patients, and led the clinical operations and quality improvement initiatives of the center. I have a strong background in medicine, having earned my MD from The Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University, and a bachelor's degree in biology from Duke University. I have also acquired multiple skills in clinical leadership, public health, and community health centers, which enable me to deliver effective and impactful solutions to the complex and dynamic health challenges facing our city. I am driven by the mission of enhancing the health and quality of life of all Detroit residents, and I am eager to bring my diverse perspectives and experiences to the team.
